Three Strategies for Greater Self Confidence
Most people think self-confidence comes from being successful in one’s goals. Actually, it’s more a product of the process on the road to success. Here are three ideas to help foster this invaluable characteristic.
Act As If
Self-confidence is a perception held by you and others. Therefore, though it may be a most difficult thing to do, acting confident, even when you don’t feel confident, will actually bring you to a more confident state. Have faith in yourself and soon you won’t be acting, you’ll actually feel confident.
Take Risks
The most direct route to self-confidence is to take calculated risks and examine your results. Will you make mistakes? Absolutely, but those mistakes contribute as much to growing your self-confidence as your victories, particularly if you resist the urge to use them to beat yourself up. No one gets it right every single time and to require that from yourself is self-sabotage at its best. Start with small steps outside of your comfort zone and build your confidence step by step.
Doubt Not, Fear Not
Not everyone, but most people, have a little voice of doubt inside their head. Learn the difference between intuition and self-doubt. Intuition is the feeling that tells you something you should do. Doubt is the expression of a lack of belief in your ability or your deservedness. Ignore these. The more you follow intuition and ignore self-doubt, the more successes you will have, the greater your confidence will be.
